Police: Missing girl with wanted man

A 12-year-old Des Moines girl was missing Friday, and police said she may be in the company of a wanted man.
Sergio Lopez, 18, is wanted in connection with sexual abuse charges, but authorities said they don't consider the case a kidnapping.
The parents of Karina Rodriquez-Resendiz, 12, said they believe she willing ran away with Lopez, so police consider it a missing person case.
But even if Karina wanted to go with Lopez, Iowa law states a child can't make that decision.
Karina has been missing for two weeks.
"The mother had taken Karina to school, and when she didn't show up for class, the school had contacted the parents," Des Moines Police Department Sgt. Jason Halifax said.
Police reports indicated Karina's parents believe she is with Lopez. He's prohibited from contacting Karina by a protective order.
"He, right now, is wanted (on) a failure-to-appear charge," Halifax said.
Lopez failed to appear in court after being charged with third-degree sexual abuse.
Authorities said Lopez is also possibly in violation of the protective order, but despite Karina's age, he most likely won't be charged with kidnapping.
